Old Metal Thursday, A to Z: VICIOUS RUMORS

vicious_rumors_band_photoA short one today as late-slot playoff hockey is beckoning.  What do you get when you take a latter-period USPM release like LIEGE LORD’s Master Control and spice it up with a bit more rock, a bit more shred and a bit more originality?  You get a glimmering representation of the style with VICIOUS RUMORS’s Digital Dictator.  While not quite up to the charming over-the-top bombast of an eternal classic like JAG PANZER’s Ample Destruction, Digital Dictator nevertheless delivers 40 minutes of solid heavy metal fun.  Imagine Defenders of the Faith-era JUDAS PRIEST armed to the teeth at a backstage Hollywood party, or just listen to the high-quality stream below and relive that ideal for yourself.

VICIOUS RUMORS have been flying this flag for 36 straight years.  Support these stalwarts of American heavy metal glory however you can!

Vicious Rumors was a more recent discovery of us here at Vibrations Of Doom, but I definitely dig it! I wonder where these guys were when I was discovering rare 80’s metal back in the day, as I never saw any of their releases ANYWHERE (and I used to see cassette versions of Venom, Iron Angel, Tank, Bulldozer etc. etc. in some places). Definitely underrated 80’s American power metal.

I agree, which is even a bit stranger since they were on Atlantic for a spell, albeit at the tail end of the glory years of their particular genre. Carl Albert was amazing and they backed him with high-energy stuff. Definitely some of my favorite USPM as of late.
